Dog Scouts
Dog Scouts is a national organization whose Mission Statement is: “To improve the lives of dogs, their owners, and society through humane education, positive training, and community involvement.” Their Vision is: “We envision a future where dogs remain in happy, lifelong homes with responsible owners. In this vision, all dogs are seen as a useful and welcome part of the community, because people take responsibility for socializing, training, containing, and caring for them.” Dog Scouts make it their goal to educate their community to achieve their vision with the Motto of “When You Know Better You Do Better”
Who wouldn’t want to be part of that great goal???!!?? Big Moose Dog Training was so excited to find out about Dog Scouts & not only joined but has the only Dog Scouts Troop in Nebraska! The Moose Troop was founded November of 2017 & since then has had fun events for all dog owners, not just troop members, every single month. Not just education & responsible dog ownership, Dog Scouts is akin to Boy Scouts & Girls Scouts in that your dog can earn BADGES! The badge list is endless, because the more you do with your dog the better relationship you will have with your dog & the better behaved your dog will be!
Before your dog can earn any badges they must FIRST earn their Dog Scouts Badge. What do they need to know? Find Out Here. Have a dog under 6 months old? They can still participate as a Pup Scout! Since the Dog Scout’s Motto is When You Know Better You Do Better Dog Scout’s Handlers must also take a Written Test when they submit their dog’s Badge Checklist. Why? To demonstrate you not only know & understand the DSA belief system but also why we train for badges in a specific way. Because being humane & clear with our dogs while keeping them safe is our priority.
